I am thrilled to have been shortlisted in the Mslexia annual Women’s Short Story Competition. My story was one of 50 shortlisted out of over 2,000 entries.

The judge was the novelist, memorist and short story exponent Janice Galloway, who said she ‘bundled up all her entries and took them into her ‘writing shed’, where she immersed herself in tales about waitresses, pathologists, teachers, stalkers, chameleons, and cowgirls’!

I found it really interesting to learn that water was a predominant theme in the entries to this year’s competition.

Apparently there was a large number of stories focusing on swimming and drowning, the sea, and sea monsters and water metaphors in general.
