I’m thrilled to have one of my short stories longlisted in the Bristol Short Story Prize 2013.

The story explores the relationship between a mother and her son and the mechanisms he uses to cope day to day with her disability.

The story was inspired by several articles I’d read about young carers and the responsibility they carry from such a young age. I tried to think about how someone of that age might cope – how they might rely on their imagination as a refuge.
